DIY “Vintage” Glass Milk Bottles

You’re probably like me, and you’ve seen all those cute vintage style milk bottles popping up on Pinterest, wishing that you were that lucky at flea markets.

It seems like I’m always reading blogs where people have these amazing finds, but all I see when I go to the flea market is old paperbacks and sequined t-shirts. Doesn’t mean I’ve quit looking though.

And then while we were visiting my family, I noticed these cute little Starbucks frappuccino bottles in their recycling bin. They had the same shape as the vintage style bottles and I vaguely remembered reading a post where someone reused them for a kids birthday party. Well, of course I had to pluck them out of the bin and take them home. (I asked first.)

Back at home, I filled a big bowl with hot soapy water, and let the bottles soak for about 15 minutes. The labels peeled right off. There was still a little adhesive left on the bottle, but a scour cloth took it off quickly. Don’t forget to rub off the time stamp too! You can do it with the scour cloth or a little nail polish remover.

To remove the expiration date stamped on the bottles, I used a little nail polish remover.

A collection of these glasses would be great for drinks at parties or as vases for a fun centrepiece.

Of course, they are still great for holding some milk…

…with a side of cookies.
