Birthday Craft Tutorial Family Gift Ideas

Sock Bouquet {Father’s Day Gift Idea}

Men are so hard to shop for. They always seem to everything they need and when you ask them what they’d like, they usually answer with something practical. When I asked Garrett what he wanted for Valentine’s Day this year, all he said was “socks”.

Really? That’s it? How do you make socks into a more exciting gift?

Make them into a sock bouquet!

This would be a fun gift idea for Father’s Day, Valentines Day or a birthday. You could also make this into a cute baby shower gift using baby socks – and what expectant mother wouldn’t like a sweet little bouquet of adorable baby socks?

What you’ll need:

  • Socks (Gym Socks, Dress Socks, Striped Socks, Baby Socks)
  • Coffee Stirsticks or Popsicle Sticks
  • Green Marker
  • Green Cardstock or Construction Paper
  • Bucket or Flower Pot
  • Florist Foam
  • Shredded Paper Basket Filler
  • Love – you always gotta put a little love into a homemade gift 🙂

Garrett was running low on his favourite white gym ankle socks, so I grabbed a 3-pack of them. For each sock, you’ll need one sewing pin.

Fold the end of the sock up.

Start rolling the sock, keeping the bottom tight and the top loose. If you’re using a longer sock, you may need to fold it over when you get to the bend in the heel.

Continue rolling until you get to the toe of the sock.

When you get to the end, fold the toe over to make a final “petal”.

Stick the sewing pin under the toe to hold the layers together.

When you fold the petal back down, you won’t see the pin.

For stems, I took coffee stirrers (you can swipe a few from a coffee shop) and coloured them with a green marker. Acrylic paint would work well too.

Once the sticks are completely dry, you can insert them into the bottom of each “rose”

Continue with all of your socks until you have a full bouquet of “roses”. A 3-pack of socks will give you half a dozen “roses”.

To make them look a little more like flowers, you can cut leaf shapes out of green cardstock. You could also take the leaves off some plastic flowers from the dollar store and glue those on for a more realistic look.

Use a serrated knife to cut the florist foam to the shape of your bucket. You can shave off the corners a bit with the knife to make it fit easier.

Insert your “roses” into the bucket, making sure to give the ones at the back more height and pushing the ones at the front further into the florist foam.

Cover the florist foam with shredded paper basket filler or craft moss.

Add a cute handmade card and you’ve got a fun way to give socks as a gift!
