Canada Cottage Outdoors Recipe Summer

Celebrating Canada Day with Yummy Watermelon Slushies

Happy Canada Day!!!

We got back from the cottage late last night after a lovely long weekend with friends. It’s always great to get a much needed break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but it is especially awesome to get to do it on a weekend where we celebrate our country!

I’m sure that many of you are at work today, but I know that all my American friends will be celebrating the Fourth of July this week too, so I thought I would share a fun recipe that we made up at the cottage – perfect for your own backyard BBQs this week.

Watermelon Slushies

I brought a HUGE watermelon up to the cottage with us. Rather than just slicing it all up, I made some of it into deliciously refreshing Watermelon Slushies!

They are super easy to make and are the perfect hot weather thirst quencher. It also makes a lovely cocktail with a little vodka mixed in as well. We’ve been relaxing on the dock, sipping some of these drinks and enjoying the long weekend.

To make your own Watermelon Slushie, chop up watermelon into 1″ cubes, making about 2 cups of cubes for each slushie. Pop the cubes into the freezer for 2 hours. Toss them in your blender, with a splash of water, juice or vodka and give it a whirl.

Enjoy your cool, sweet beverage out in the sun, preferably with your toes in the water at the end of a dock.

Here’s to Canada’s 146th Birthday!
