Happy Friday! Today’s post was delayed in getting out there because I’ve been having a few technical difficulties, but it should be sorted out now. A few hiccups aren’t enough to keep me from sharing some of my top reasons why I love that fall is here now! It’s my favourite season and I always try to make the most of it while it’s here.
1. Decorating the House
As you can probably imagine, I get really into decorating the house for the seasons – especially for fall.
I’ve already picked up a couple of pieces to get started on this year’s bookcase/mantel. Now I just need to find some time this weekend to do the fun part – putting it all together. I’ll be sharing what I come up with next week!
2. Homemade Applesauce
Last week, I picked up a bag of some awesome Ontario apples and made some applesauce to freeze for the coming months. I love the smell of homemade applesauce cooking and how it makes the whole house smell amazing. When I was going back to the original applesauce post I did in 2009, I noticed that the photos could use an update, so I redid them.
It was fun to see how much my photos and photography skills have changed in the past 4 years! I used to take photos in artificial light at night all the time….
…and now I’ve embraced natural light!
If you have never made homemade applesauce before, I encourage you to buy a bag of your local apples this fall and make some. It’s incredibly easy to make and the results are fantastic – you’ll never buy jarred again!
3. Yummy Scented Candles
I’m not usually a scented candle person, but I find it hard to resist all the fall scents. Lately I’ve been lighting a candle when I get home from work in the evenings and making the whole apartment smell like fall.
I love my “Kitchen Spice” and “Autumn” candles, and I added a Pumpkin Caramel Latte candle (in a cute mason jar!) and the matching soap for the washroom (a fun splurge). They are yummy, spicy and fairly subtle. Nothing too overpowering or I get headaches.
4. Fall Flowers
I haven’t gone to the nursery yet to pick up flowers for a fall planter on the porch, but when I look at these pictures from last year, I want to do it soon!
I’m thinking of maybe doing something with different coloured fall mums and sticks in our big barrel planter.
Such a nice pick-me-up to greet you whenever you come home.
5. Cuddling in Bed with a Warm Puppy
It’s hard enough to get out of bed on a cold fall morning, but when you have a cuddly dog in bed, it’s even harder. Usually Whiskey hops into bed with me as soon as Garrett leaves for work. Then we cuddle up until the dreaded alarm goes off. I get up and get ready, while Whiskey continues to hide out under the covers.
But at some point, I need to take him out for his morning walk before I go to work, and I have to carefully extract him from his bed or our bed (wherever he has made himself comfortable).
The look he gives me at this point is always priceless – “you must be kidding me if you think I’ll be getting out of bed before noon”. I feel you, buddy.
We’ve got a fun weekend planned out started with a festival in our town tonight. I’m going to bundle up in jeans and a cozy sweater and enjoy the crisp fall air. Hope you have a great weekend!
