Christmas Holidays Winter

A Parade in a Blizzard

We’ve been pretty lucky so far this fall and there hasn’t been too much snow…but it seems that all that changed tonight.

Just as we were about to head out to the Santa Claus parade down our street, a huge blizzard started. We decided that it didn’t look that bad for walking, and bundled up with some spiked hot chocolate in hand.

Before we realized how crazy the snow was, we brought Whiskey with us. By the time we got to the parade down the street, we were all covered in snow. Garrett tucked Whiskey in his jacket with his little puppy parka.

That scarf I’m wearing is normally bright red and that’s a good two inches of snow on top of my hood.

But all the snow didn’t seem to keep anyone from enjoying all the great floats. If anything, the snow added to the ambiance – it looked like something out of an old Christmas movie.

You would think that all the snow would keep some folks at home, but the streets were full of people lined up to see the show. Those who set up their chairs early were snuggled under blankets and starting to resemble snow drifts. There were plenty of big thermoses of hot beverages floating around as everyone kept warm.

Kudos to all the parade volunteers who marched along the street in the blustery wind – it really brought out the Christmas spirit.

We had a blast out in the snow, even Whiskey seemed content to be bundled up in Garrett’s jacket (he was the warmest of us all!). As soon as we got home, I wanted to dig out all the Christmas stuff and setup the tree. Then I remembered that it’s all still in storage, so you better believe that’s on this week’s list. I’m ready to get in the fa-la-la-la-la mood!

Wow, that is a lot of snow! I’m amazed that the parade still went on and that so many people were watching. Seems like a really memorable way to kick off the holiday season! 🙂
