The Honeymoon Haircut

Hey everyone! I hope that all my Canadian family and friends are having an awesome long weekend. It feels weird to be missing out on the unofficial kick off of summer, but we’ve been having a great time on the honeymoon so far. Make sure to check out Instagram for more updates as we make our way through the South!

– – –

I’ve always been lucky to have long, thick straight hair that grows really fast, but sometimes the grass is greener on the other side.

In anticipation of our honeymoon starting this weekend, I went and got my hair chopped off in a bob suitable for a road trip through the balmy Southern US.

Only a few months back, it was crazy long at my bridal shower and was so heavy that it gave me headaches when I wore it in a ponytail. Any time I put it in a bun, it was always lopsided from the weight.

Have you seen this video? This is totally how I felt.

As much as it was driving me crazy, I wanted the length to make sure that we could do the  wedding look I liked. Even after my hairdresser put in some layers to ease up the weight for the updo, it was still long in the back.

I’ve only ever had my hair short-ish twice. Once when I was 11 years old on a family camping trip and then almost four years ago when it was a particularly hot summer in the city. Both times I wasn’t crazy about it and let it grow back, but I have to admit that this new look is growing on me.

At the back it hits the nape of my neck and then gets longer in the front, stopping just after my collarbone. It’s similar to the looks that I shared on a Friday Favourites post a few weeks ago and on my Summer Hair Ideas Pinterest board. I took print outs of the looks I liked to my hairdresser so that we could talk about the length, shape, etc. That’s my number one tip with hairdressers – bring pics of what you want and be open to talking about what will truly work best for your hair type.

I couldn’t get over how much came off. And this was just the initial cut. We still had more to go!

Washing it is soooo easy, it’s almost a joke. I’m sure I’m going to save a fortune on conditioner alone. I can now blow dry it in 6 minutes flat (yep, I timed it).

But my favourite way to do it – messy and wavy with some body to it. I could never have gotten this look before when it was so heavy. Hello Summertime!

Super cute. Love it. Still long enough to pull back. Trying to get mine there after cutting it super short last summer (big mistake).
