Friday Favourites

Friday Favourites

It’s Canada Day weekend! Woohoo! Even though it’s technically a holiday weekend, the actual holiday falls on Tuesday, which means I have the weekend off, back to work on Monday and then off again Tuesday. It’s almost going to be like two weekends in one week.

I’m heading up to my parents’ tonight with the dogs in tow (and my huge basket of laundry, as always). My dad and I are doing a pool deck makeover and my mom and I have a date with her garden to plant a lilac bush. Manual labour is always better when you can do it outside…and the reward at the end if a BBQ at my friends’ place. Which reminds me…I still need to figure out what I’m bringing…

I hope that you all have a great weekend planned with lots of fun in the sun.

Patriotic Punch: I’m loving this Canada Day inspired cocktail – layered with cranberry juice, lemon-lime soda, ice and fresh strawberries.

Fresh and Fruity Salsa: Wouldn’t that drink go nice with some of this Strawberry Pineapple Salsa from Delighted Momma. She paired it with sweet potato chips, which sound awesome.

BBQ Bliss: Next time we have company over this summer, I really want to make this Root Beer Can Chicken from Iowa Girl Eats. The seasonings look amazing!

Ice Cream Dreamin’: How cute is this vintage ice cream cart? It’s used by Sweet Lucies, an organic ice cream company in California. I’d love a pint of their mint chocolate chip – my fav.

Garden Makeover: My mom did a big overhaul of her cutting garden last year and it looks fantastic, but it needs some kind of a path to walk from one side to the other. I really like this pallet wood pathway and it reuses wood that would have otherwise ended up in the junkyard! This project inspiration comes from Donna at Funky Junk Interiors and I can’t wait to meet her when she speaks at BlogPodium this September.

More Pallet Love: Sometimes pallet projects can look dirty (which is cool if you’re going for that look), but I’m really loving the way you can transform pallet boards (or any beat up wood) into richer pieces with stain and poly.

On The Lookout: Any time we stopped at a flea market or antique store along the honeymoon road trip, I was on the lookout for a rustic wooden window frame with chippy paint like this. Unfortunately I came up empty handed. We found some but they were always either super expensive or broken. Oh well, I’m sure that something will come up soon enough. Now that we have the wedding photos back, I’d love to be able to do a frame like this for our bedroom or my office space.
