Friday Favourites

Friday Favourites – Home Sweet Home & Valentine’s Day Ideas

It’s Friday again! Another busy week has gone by and I only got two blog posts out at the beginning of the week before everything got crazy. I barely had time to make dinner let alone write another post. It’s always my best intention to get five posts out every week, but sometimes that just isn’t going to happen. If I get four out there it feels like a good week. I also find that winter is such a hard time to blog when you have a full time job because the daylight hours are so limited. In the summer it feels like I can work on projects and test recipes up until 8pm. Right now I’m lucky if I still have light good enough for photos in the first 15 minutes I’m home. Otherwise I have to limit it to weekends when we don’t already have plans (like the trip to Ottawa last weekend).
This weekend I’ve set some time aside to take photos of a few things I’ve been working on, so I’m looking forward to a good blog week coming up!

Home Sweet Home: When I got home from Ottawa late on Sunday night, I came home to three lovely things that Garrett had done that were totally unexpected:

  1. There was a big colour bouquet of flowers in a vase on the dining room table.
  2. The kitchen was totally cleaned up from the mess I’d made for the Italian dinner we’d done with friends.
  3. There was leftover pizza in the fridge from my absolute favourite pizza place in our town.

I had a great weekend out of town, but it felt so good to come back home and find these lovely surprises. I married a good one, for sure.
Bald Black Dog: I’ve mentioned Cola’s hair loss a few times and I’m happy to report that he is starting to grow his hair again! Our vet had him on medication (which I refer to as “Doggie Rogaine”) that takes about two months to work, but thankfully we started to notice some new growth this month. What a great time of year for a dog to lose his hair, right? It’s made for some awfully chilly morning walks for this little guy and I’m glad to see he’s on the mend. Now if I could only teach him that my balls of yarn are not pillows…or toys…

Valentine’s Day is coming up so soon! I can’t believe it’s only a week away now. If you’re looking for some craft and recipe ideas, check out my Valentine’s Day posts from years past or my Pinterest board.

I still need to come up with a fun gift idea for Garrett. We usually keep it low key with a little something for each other, some chocolate (of course) and a fun dinner. The crowds are always ridiculous for that day (especially on a Saturday this year!) so I’ve been trying to come up with an exciting new dish to make together at home. We did fondue one year and loved it. Any suggestions?

I wish I had some good suggestions for you…(I’m really not that great in the kitchen!).
Glad to hear Cola is feeling better these days! And I love those flowers! Certainly brightens a room up in those gloomy, winter evenings.
