Pizza Night at the Princess Margaret Show Home {Video}

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to come out for a pizza night at one of the Princess Margaret Home Lottery’s 2015 Show Homes in Kleinburg, Ontario. As soon as they said there would be pizza, you better believe Garrett offered to tag along too. Chef Rocco Agostino from Pizzeria Libretto was on hand to make some of his famous Neapolitan style pizzas in the new iDeck pizza oven at the house. I was lucky enough to have his pizza a few times when I lived in Toronto and was looking forward to seeing him in action.

The house itself is an impressive sight to see. At 7,362 sq. ft. it’s a huge home. Just like when I previously have been to the Princess Margaret Show Homes, it’s always so fun to see what the designers have come up with. If you spot something you like, be sure to check out the source guide and floor plans.

My favourite room was the open concept living room, connecting to the kitchen. The space was so open and bright. I even got to share it in a little video:

As soon as we walked in, you could smell the delicious pizzas being made.

Chef Rocco was a great sport with all my insistent questions (What kind of flour do you use? How long do you proof the dough? What temperature is the oven at?). I love making homemade pizza and am always looking for ways to improve it. I could have spent all night talking to him about tips and ingredients.

The pizza oven itself was pretty cool. It has stone sides that help distribute the heat evenly, not unlike the pizza stones you can find to use at home. His big tip with those pizza stones – get them hot in the oven first. I never thought of that! I always roll my dough right onto the stone, but next time I’m going to try heating it up first and then just sliding the pizza onto the hot stone in the oven.

The pizzas were fantastic and I was happy to sample all the great combinations – Margherita (tomato, basil, mozzarella), Cremini Mushroom (buffalo mozzarella , gorgonzola, roasted garlic , rosemary, thyme, pecorino) and House-Made Sausage, (sausage, caramelized onion, mozzarella, chili oil). Thankfully they even sent us home with leftovers for lunch the next day (yay!)

Rosewood Estates Winery and Apiary was on hand with some perfect wine pairings for the pizzas. Their chardonnay was great with the cremini mushroom pizza, and I’m hoping that we’ll be down in the Niagara region this summer to buy a few bottles. They also have their own bees and make mead (also known as honey wine). I’ve never heard of that before! We had a great chat about local honey and planting wildflower seeds to help the bees out.

After the pizza and wine, we had a chance to walk around the show home and admire the incredible design and features. We’re really thinking of changing up the kitchen in our farmhouse and this gave us some good ideas of how to make use of the space.

I’m pretty sure our entire apartment could fit into the master bedroom. It’s big and spacious, with lots of luxe details.

The master bathroom was like a spa, with his and her sinks, showers and water closets, a beautiful freestanding tub and mother of pearl accents.

I am seriously in love with the upstairs hallway – and it’s giving me some inspiration for our own future home. The white and black banisters, combined with retro maps is right up my alley. The large hanging pendant lights and raised ceiling give it so much height and grandeur.

I’m not usually a fan of wallpaper, but I love the whimsical feel of this room. Every bedroom in the house has a different theme – from sunny yellow to an industrial retro bike theme, the designs are all really interesting.

The winner for room with the most impact (which is hard in a house as dynamic as this one), would be this two storey sitting room. It’s one of the first rooms you see when you come into the house and it leaves a lasting impression.

It was really fun to check out the show home, fill up on awesome homemade pizza and even film a little video. Not my usual Sunday night for sure!

And where was Garrett? He found his own man cave in the house – a soundproof theatre room with a games room off to the side. I think he felt right at home already, ha!

There is still time to get your tickets to the Princess Margaret Home Lottery for your chance to win this beautiful home or one of the other 10 grand prize properties! Good luck!
