Another month has gone by and we’re one step closer to baby girl getting here. I’m slowly working away at the to-do list and we’re taking on some house projects in the coming months too. It will be easier to do them now before I start getting too big…or when we have a newborn to work around!
Week 21
While watching TV one night, Garrett felt the baby kick for the first time. I’ve really been feeling her lately (especially when I’m sitting still…or more often than not when I’m going to bed). It was pretty cool that he finally got to feel it too. What felt like a big kick to me was just a little bump to him, but hopefully as she gets bigger he’ll be able to feel her more.
Week 22
I had my last visit with my obstetrician this week before I switched over to my midwives. While he was listening to the heartbeat, we heard a big “whomp!”. He looked up with a big smile and said “she kicked the ultrasound wand!”. We’ve got quite the active baby on our hands here.
We’ve been pretty lucky that it’s been a very mild winter here, which has been very convenient for this pregnant lady. I’ve only had to shovel snow a handful of times! I’m still keeping bundled up on those chillier days with my big boots, wooly hat and the most comfortable maternity peacoat I could find.
As I mentioned in a post last month, we’ve been working to clear out the third bedroom/storage room to make into a nursery. I’ve slowly been clearing things out and I hope to have it all done in the next few weeks. It’s coming along slowly but surely.
In the meantime, we started talking about painting the nursery. The plan had always been to repaint the walls, but when we brought home swatches of some of the accent colours, we both realized that maybe the light grey-purple colour could stay. I’m sure Garrett was a little relieved that he didn’t have to paint the room solo! We’ve been pretty lucky that we love all the colours that the previous owners had painted the house when they prepared it to sell last year.
Now it’s a matter of figuring out décor, picking up some more furniture and doing a few DIY projects to welcome our little one soon.
Week 23
(This is a pic I sent my friend, laughing about how I’m past the point of worrying about any shirts buttoning up. It’s open sweaters and button up shirts from here on in!)
I started working on the list of things to buy and creating a registry. It’s so overwhelming figuring out what to get when you look at the shops, but thankfully I’ve got some great friends who’ve all been new moms in the last few years and have lots of suggestions and recommendations to pass on. It’s been a HUGE help in navigating this world of baby stuff.
It was pretty exciting when the first baby related mail showed up – the diaper bag! After lots of online window shopping, I finally took the dive and ordered the Skip Hop Limited Edition French Stripe Diaper Bag. I love the big pockets, stroller straps and the plastic coated canvas (which will be easier to keep clean!). Now I just need to figure out what to put in it…
Week 24
On the weekend we went to the first birthday party for our friends’ daughter. It was a great chance to catch up with some of my university friends and see some of the things we have to look forward to.
Seeing your close friends become mothers is such a great thing to witness, and it’s reassuring when you see them handling the transition so well! It feels like we were just babies ourselves when we met all those years ago and now there is a second generation of fun little ladies around.
I just love seeing them grow up so quickly!
