These past couple weeks have been busy, and I haven’t remembered to bring my camera along with me very often. I picked it up again this weekend when we had some time with family, celebrating a couple of birthdays. You can see more in the vlog at the end of the post.
The snow has come back to Ontario with a couple of snow squalls lately. Thankfully we got the chickens all prepped for winter in time.
Our Black Star chickens are not too sure about all the snow. This is their first winter and I keep finding them up at the front door as if they’re asking to come inside for the winter, thank-you-very-much.
We did get a few days where the snow melted, which meant our landscaping could start on the new part of the flower field. We’re expanding it for next year and using the soil we’re removing to fill in another area of the yard that was treacherous to walk on.
As busy as we’ve been at home, I’ve tried to get Lucy out of the house almost every day. Sometimes we go swimming or to a local playgroup, but other times its just errands or shopping – she just likes getting out of the house. This has been really helpful with getting Christmas shopping done…as long as I steer clear of stuffed animals and colourful balls.
Her other favourite thing is company, like when we hosted my great aunt’s birthday dinner this weekend. Lucy was the happiest little hostess, sampling all the cheese and crackers and trying to pick up all the cocktails. As we sat around our dining room table with all these familiar faces, she was just beaming. Quite the little ham we’ve got here.
Then the next night we headed over to Garrett’s parents’ for his birthday dinner too. I made lasagna, while my father-in-law put together a salad and taught me how he makes his own garlic butter for bread that really packs a punch. (You can catch some of his demonstration in the vlog)
I also brought Garrett’s birthday cake, which was a cinnamon bun inspired cake this year. He always gives me some new flavour combination to try and make, but this one turned out pretty good, even if it lacked points on presentation. Happy Birthday, Garrett!
