Decor Spring

Spring Colours

This weekend I decided to make a few quick changes to my apartment decor to bring it into Spring. It may be drizzling outside, but its nice and bright in my place now 🙂

Out with the dark red and black kitchen decor, and in with a fresh and fun lemon and turquoise theme. Its amazing how some fresh flowers and a few pops of colour can really liven up a place.
My new favorite drink is Boylan Soda Company’s Orange Seltzer. I’ve only been able to find one cafe that sells it in Toronto (and it ain’t cheap), but I’m on the lookout for a retailer. Its super light and refreshing and isn’t loaded with sugar, like most carbonated drinks. In the background you can see my new cake stand 🙂 I picked it up at Target for $7 while I was in Florida. Right now it houses some muffins, but I’m looking forward to the first chance I get to decorate a cake on it.
How cute are these little white bird salt and pepper shakers? I originally bought a set at Pier 1 Imports last year for my Mother’s birthday, but I loved them so much that I kept a set for myself as well. I don’t know if its the detailed wings, or their plump little bodies, but I just can’t get enough of them.
I continued the turquoise and yellow theme into the living room with some flower arrangements and fruit on the bookcase. I picked up the flowers at a local fruit market for only $6 for a huge bundle that created all 4 arrangements.

The small vases are actually mercury glass votives that I bought at Pottery Barn after Christmas ($1.99 down from $9.99 each!), but they are the perfect size for these cute little arrangements. The turquoise bowls are from a dollar store in Kingston, Ontario and I’ve had them for ages, but all it took was a couple of lemons from the grocery store to turn them into a fun pop of colour.
I love how the mercury glass reflects onto the bookshelf, adding some sparkle to a simple Spring display.
So what was it that got me into the lemon and turquoise phase? Well, when I was in Florida I went out shopping with the girls at Target and while I was wandering around, I came across this set of adorable tea towels. Within 10 seconds I was hooked, and started looking for matching turquoise placemats and dreaming about picking up a huge bag of lemons (Maybe even a 12 lemon centrepiece like in The Breakup  with Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughan?)
Brooke: What are these? [holds up a bag with 3 lemons]

Gary: You asked for lemons. What my baby wants my baby gets.

Brooke: There are 3 lemons. I asked for 12. Baby wanted 12.

If I start digressing about Jennifer Aniston movies then I’ll never get back to the task at hand…tea towels…

I love the cute little illustrations on these tea towels. Teacups and Birds.

And cute little teapots. Doesn’t this just make you want to sit down and have a cup of tea and something sweet like a Lemon Bar?

And thats exactly what I plan to do, just as soon as I can dig out that Lemon Bar recipe. As you can see, I’ve got a lot of lemons that I’ll need to make into things soon 🙂
