One of my favourite stores has always been Bass Pro Shop. Call me crazy, but I love going through all the aisles of sporting gear and taking in all the lodge cabin ambience. I’ve been to a number of them all over the US, but thankfully we now have one here just a little north of Toronto. Garrett and I had a chance to pop in quickly this week while we were in the area.
Aside from the retail therapy, I think that the best part about these stores are all the displays throughout. If there was ever a job posting for designing and setting up these displays, I would jump on that in a heartbeat.
Did you know that many of these stuffed animals come from widows? It turns out that they often donate them after their hunting husbands have passed away. At least they find a good home where people from all over can admire them.
I even tried my luck at shooting few targets in the shooting range. I’m not a big fan of hunting, but I like hitting the pots and making them rattle 🙂
It always amazes me when I see the merchandise that they have there. Despite growing up in a community where many people went on hunting or fishing trips, I’ve never really done any myself. It an interesting culture and I love learning more about it when I visit the shop.
Garrett thought that we should get this poster to hang above the bookcase in the living room. While I do like the colours, I’m worried that the subject matter might rile Whiskey up to much, especially when he has his own history of attacking birds.
All joking aside, there were some really interesting prints there. This smoking gun is saturated in rich colours and is beautifully done.
Garrett and I also found a new couch set while we were there. Talk about bringing the outdoors in!
However, I did think that these candles in little cast iron pots were pretty darn cute looking. But that can probably just be attributed to my new found love of cast iron.
Just as we were leaving the store, I saw this adorable beaver display and it reminded me of our own beaver problems this year. In that pond there are little live fishing swimming around in their faux river habitat.
Right next to it are even bigger fish that attracted the attention of every little (and big) boy in the store. I think its great that every Bass Pro Shop has an aquarium with indigenous species for people to learn about.
Hope that you enjoyed our little tour through the shop. I only end up there about once a year, but its always a fun time just looking around. Sometimes window shopping can be a really fun (and cheap) way to get out and have a little fun.
