Canada Cottage Dogs Friends Outdoors Summer

Our Canada Day Long Weekend

This past weekend we headed to our friends’ cottage for our annual Canada Day long weekend trip.

It was a great chance to get together with everyone and celebrate our country.

There was water-skiing off the dock.

And around the bay. (Bonus points if you spray people on the dock when you swirl back around).

Relaxing on the deck.

And bobbing along on the dock.

Lots of great BBQ dinners.

And plenty of bacon for breakfasts.

Huge piles of wood for the bonfire.

And men doing “manly” things like chopping said firewood.

But I’m not complaining because it meant I was able to catch up on some reading on the deck. (Whiskey makes a great book rest).

Bonfires every night.

 Making Bonfire Banana Boats.

And watching fireworks across the bay.

Whiskey had a great time too. He loved taking naps in the sun on the dock (with his lifejacket on of course)

But his favourite part of the cottage had to be all the “laps” he could rest on. Whether it was Garrett…

…or Amy…

…or me.

I have to admit that it ain’t half bad having him snuggled up for a nap in the sun.

 Who could complain about this?

There were lots of other dogs there too. There was always 1-2 hanging around you…especially if you had food.

The newest addition is this adorable 5 month old Schnauzer named Chumlee (named after the guy on Pawn Stars, but we all called him Chum for short).

He may look little now, but he is going to be 50-60 lbs when he grows up.

Enjoy sitting in that chair while you still can, buddy!

It was fun having a cute little puppy with all that bumbly personality. I may have got a little puppy-fever, but then Garrett kindly reminded me that we live in an itty bitty apartment which is not ideal for a puppy right now. But someday hopefully we’ll get another little friend for Whiskey.

There was also a little brown Boston Terrier there too.

To say he was energetic is an understatement. He never calmed down.

Keela, Whiskey’s gal pal, was there too and was as stoic as ever…unless she wanted you to throw her stick in the lake. Then she dropped that heavy thing repeatedly on your flip flops until you gave in. Ouch.

Big splash on the way in.

Lots of circling around until she finds it.

And then proudly dragging it back up to shore.

Whiskey preferred to watch all the commotion from the comfort of the deck.
That is until this viszla came over from next door.
Then they played a long (and super fast) game of “catch me if you can”.
Whiskey is faster than he looks, so he is usually the winner. I love that other dog’s look when he realizes that Whiskey has circled around and caught up to him.
I gotta admit that I’m proud of my little pup and he’s ability to stand up to bigger dogs.
After the big run, Dave lured all the dogs down to the water.
Some were comfortable with wandering in, but I knew Whiskey would avoid the water at all costs.
So Dave did a little swimming lesson with the fella and put him out in the shallow area.
We cheered him the whole way back to shore.
After their swimming lessons, the pooches came back up to the deck for a nap.

But Whiskey was still on guard in case someone threw him back in the lake. I swear he slept with one eye open the res of the weekend. No fear of him becoming a “water dog”

It was a great weekend with friends (and lots of dogs as you can see from these pics). The second best thing about a long weekend (besides having Monday off!) is that it’s a shorter work week. Meaning it’s already Thursday and I’m that much closer to another weekend of swimming, boating and enjoying summer!
