Family Holidays New Years Party

Friday Favourites – Here’s to a Wonderful 2015!

Happy New Year!!! I hope that 2015 has been good to all of you so far! While my family has been off for the holidays, I’ve been at work most of this week, but it’s been so quiet that I’ve been able to catch up on lots. I love knowing that I’ll be starting next week with a clean slate. I’ve also been trying to wrap up projects and paperwork at home so that I can dig into some new blog projects this weekend. I didn’t set any resolutions this year, but I did make a big list of all the things that I need or want to accomplish in 2015. I love that the beginning of the year always brings on a time of reflection, to think about your successes (and failures) in the previous year, how you’re living your life (what’s working and what’s not), working towards big life goals and changing the day-to-day stuff too. I started to take down the Christmas decorations last night – and it was a little bittersweet. I’m going to miss all the twinkle lights for sure, but I also like getting back all the space too!

For New Years this year, we wanted to keep it low key and stay close to home. Garrett had to get up at 4:30am the next day for work, which meant that he really couldn’t be out into the wee hours.

Instead, we planned a nice night in with both our parents. It was a big year for 2014 as our two families came together, and it just seemed right to celebrate it with the four people who got us there. The decor was easy – our Christmas lights were still up and I put up a “2015” banner. My mom took apart her Christmas arrangement and made this sparkly New Years one!

Garrett’s parents’ brought us a big bouquet of flowers too. I love all the fresh flowers in the house right now – it makes me think of spring being juuuust around the corner (I hope).

We still have hundreds of cocktail napkins left from the wedding due to a printing error that resulted in a free reprint. If you come over for any cocktail party at our house within the next decade, I can almost guarantee that you’ll be seeing these.

My contribution to the menu was tiramisu (recipe coming soon!) and this yummy wrapped baked brie with apples and brown sugar. It was so delicious – and very easy to make!

“The Moms” (as we lovingly call them) brought spring rolls, dumplings, slow cooked meatballs, shrimp and a veggie tray. We certainly had a feast! My brother even stopped by on his way to a party in the city. He heard there was meatballs to make a sandwich!

I grabbed a bottle of champagne on the way home from work for us to toast the new year. Garrett thought it was getting late, so we’d better open it – I checked the clock and it was only 8pm, ha!

It was a really lovely night in with some of the people we love most…and two little dogs who were quite happy to have constant attention from everyone.

Your husband had to get up the next morning at 4:30 for work? Oh my. What does he do? He must be a police officer or paramedic or something!
