Christmas Family

A Family Christmas Weekend

I am oh so close to being ready for Christmas. All our cards have been mailed, the gifts have been wrapped and I just have one last batch of cookies to bake. After being so sick last year and feeling completely unprepared for the holidays, its been nice to get caught up this year and enjoy it. It feels like it’s just flown by this year – I can hardly believe it’s only three more days until Christmas!

On Saturday morning my youngest cousin came over to my parents’ for her annual Christmas sleepover. She made flowers arrangements and decorated cookies with my mom, then came over to our place while they attended a Christmas party. She helped me make a huge homemade pizza with the Best Pizza Dough recipe, wrapped a bunch of gifts while watching a Christmas movie and finished the evening off with ice cream sundaes. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday night in the country!

Over the weekend we also watched our friend’s dog Keela. She and Whiskey are best buds and they were crying and licking each other when she showed up. Cola didn’t feel the same way but tolerated her thanks to the new toys she came with. She was so quiet that I’d hardly remember she was there, until I’d to step backwards and would bump into my not-so-little shadow. I couldn’t resist sending my friend this sweet pic of her dog cuddled up on the couch with us by the light of the Christmas tree.

Sunday found us heading up north for a huge Christmas lunch a my aunt’s. There was turkey with all the fixin’s, tons of desserts and the much loved chocolate fountain. You’d think the kids would be the ones flocking around it, but they usually have to push aside the adults to get at it. Who can resist melted chocolate?!?

The little guys were over the moon when they opened their lightsabres from my parents, or as they affectionately called them…their “Christmas swords”. Other than a few warnings of “don’t poke anyone’s eye out” and “watch out for the Christmas tree”, they were a big hit, as you can see. Everyone seems to have Star Wars fever right now.

We also got to see the newest family member again, who was in awe of her boisterous boy cousins. She has grown so much since I saw her in October. Such a sweetie!

Afterwards, my family came back to my parents’ house for my brother and sister’s birthday dinner. We made Cheese Fondue with goodies for dipping, just as we did last year too (and it was on the same weekend we saw our family up north). After turkey for lunch and fondue for dinner, we were all stuffed…but managed to find room for the delicious Gingerbread Cake and freshly whipped cream my mom made. It was a definitely a day of good food!

Psst – With only three days left until Christmas, I wanted to remind you to check out my Christmas Morning Survival Kit for all the last minute things you might need to make your holly jolly morning go smoothly!
