I’ve set this post to go live on Friday morning, but I’m hoping that maybe I’ll go into labour before then. Who knows! Today is officially my due date, so this baby is full cooked and I can hardly wait to meet her! For more updates, be sure to follow along on Instagram and Facebook.

It’s hard to believe that this might be my last pregnancy update. It feels like the time has just flown by. For the most part, I’ve been very fortunate to have an easy, healthy pregnancy, but I’ll admit that as I get near the end I’m definitely getting ready to have my body back and more importantly to be able to hold our sweet little babe in my arms. I read something earlier this week about how you get to the end and everyone goes from thinking you’re this glowing being growing life to suddenly you’re the lady who is hoarding this baby from them. Ha! I not-so-secretly kept hoping that she would come sometime this week so that she’d be here in time for the long weekend so we could soak up as much time with her while Garrett is off. There is still time to get here before then, little one!
Week 37
Our mothers (the future grandmothers!) threw the nicest Beatrix Potter Baby Shower to celebrate the baby coming. It was great to be surrounded by so many important women in my life and to hear all the advice and well wishes.
Be sure to check out this post for the full details of all the great food and decor they did. I loved Peter Rabbit and the Beatrix Potter stories growing up, and they did such a great job making it come to life.
We were so lucky to get such thoughtful and generous gifts to help us prepare for our little one.
Cola was sure to inspect all the bags when we got home.
It was my last week of work, but I found it harder and harder to sleep through the night. There are several times I watched the sun come up over the hill in the wee hours, only to doze off for a bit more shut eye before work. I was glad to know I only had a few more days left.
Week 38
On the Tuesday, it was not only my last day of work, but also Our Second Wedding Anniversary! It’s crazy to think about how much has changed in the last two years. Despite both fighting off colds that week, we decided to go out for a nice dinner together. It was strange to think this could be our last time going out just the two of us before the baby gets here!
My coworkers sent me off with some really thoughtful gifts, including a big spring planter for the front porch. It was so nice to sleep in on the Wednesday (even if I was up about ten times through the night!).
I had a whole list of things I wanted to accomplish while I was on maternity leave, including working on the huge garden my mom and I decided to plant in the back part of our property where it connects to the big cornfield behind us. At this point, all attempts to button up my jacket are futile!
Thankfully we had a really sunny day that week, but after only 2 hours outside, I got the worst sunburn from some combination of pregnancy hormones and not having seen the sun since I was in Florida.
I try to make it through the night without getting up too much, but there have been a few times that the baby has been moving so much that she gets me hungry. Nothing like some butter and raspberry jam on multigrain toast (with a side of organic milk!) to get you through the night. It usually can buy me a few more hours.
And I’ve got the best snuggle buddies for afternoon naps right now. Here is Cola falling asleep while his legs hang off the chair. I have no idea how he can be comfortable like this, ha!
Week 39
I cannot believe how big my belly has gotten every day of the last week or so of pregnancy. She feels like she is gaining so much weight, which is great. When I went to the midwife, I’d actually lost a pound, but she wasn’t too worried as it was most likely fluid or from being so active now that I’m not working a desk job. I think this is the only time in my life that I’ve lost a pound and been concerned, ha!
I have definitely been getting my steps every day, between running errands, cleaning the farmhouse, pacing around while I catch up with friends on the phone and spending lots of time out in the garden. There is still so much to do in the gardens, so I’m sure I’ll be out there over the long weekend if this baby doesn’t get here by then!
I had my last official midwife appointment this week before they start considering me overdue. If I don’t have the baby within the next week, they’ll book me to be induced, so I’m hoping that things will start to progress on their own.
My mom came with me and we made a special stop into my in-law’s house for lunch in their beautiful newly renovated kitchen. My mother-in-law made the nicest lunch for all of us and it was such a treat to sit with these two ladies and chat. They are both going to be such great grandmothers and I can’t wait for them to get to meet their first grandchild.
Otherwise, I’ve been trying to soak up my time at home with Garrett and the dogs. I know their world is going to change dramatically oh so soon. A couple of weeks ago we had to get almost half of Whiskey’s teeth pulled (poor little guy) because they were too diseased and it was causing him discomfort. For an almost 9-year-old dog, they said it was pretty impressive that he didn’t need any more pulled out, but I still felt bad for him. He’s been getting lots of extra attention and soft treats while he recovers.
We had the choice of doing it now or waiting until after the baby, but it seemed best to get it over with while the house was still quiet enough for him to recover peacefully. (And yes, I’m in my Christmas pyjamas. They are one of three pairs that still fit comfortably right now!)
Now I’m trying to keep myself distracted as I wait and wait for labour to kick in. Yesterday it was working on the mobile for the nursery (so close to being done!) and baking a couple loaves of my favourite banana bread for the freezer. Today, it will be sewing with my mom and cleaning out our fridge. Anything I can do to keep me from focusing on the one thing I can’t control right now – when this baby comes! Wish me luck!
